Hyperpigmentation can make you feel self conscious about your skin. In efforts to get rid of your dark spots, you can end up spending lots of money on skin care products that claim to get rid of it. Often times, clients are left with limited results, and resort to covering up with more and more makeup. We are here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way. There are treatments available that can help fade, and eventually eliminate the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Our personal favorite here at Newport Face N Body: microneedling.
What is Hyperpigmentation?
First off, what is hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation is a common condition that occurs when the skin produces and excess amount of melanin in an area, causing the skin to become darker than the surrounding skin.
Wherever melanin is produced in excess, dark spots appear.
This irregularity in the production of melanin can be caused by a variety of factors including acne, cuts, sunburn, etc.
Hyperpigmentation, in particular, can be caused by a variety of factors including…
- Hormonal changes
- Exposure to the sun
These dark spots are very stubborn, and instead of fading away, they only become more visible with time.
Because as you age, your skin doesn’t produce new cells as efficiently. As a result, old cells accumulate, leading to a dull appearance.
This is why microneedling is one of the most effective for treating hyperpigmentation.
Microneedling: A Solution for Hyperpigmentation
Microneedling involved the use of a pen with tiny needles at the end of it. These holes penetrate the skin to create micro-channels.
Also referred to as collagen induction therapy, microneedling stimulates collagen production. The small injuries that are made to your skin trigger your body’s healing process. This is why microneedling is also referred to as collagen induction therapy.
After your procedure, the old layer of skin becomes dry and peels off in a week or so. For 10 -14 days. new collagen is formed to cover up the injuries.
The new skin that is revealed is free from any kind of marks or spots.
Why Do We Love Microneedling for Hyperpigmentation?
Microneedling is one of our favorite procedures used to treat dark spots for various reasons.
- Natural. Microneedling triggers a natural response to injury, therefore it is chemical-free and safe.
- No side-effects. When clients follow the post-care instructions, there are no side effects. and the results last for a long time.
- Long-lasting results. The results attained from microneedling last a long time.
- Safe for all skin types. Many treatments, such as lasers, can make hyperpigmentation worse. Mirconeedling can be used for all skin types.
