Microdermabrasion removes the outer layer of the skin to reveal a healthier and more youthful appearance.
What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a quick, minimally invasive skin care treatment that is used to improve the overall texture and tone of your skin. It’s very effective at improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, age spots, and hyperpigmentation.
The process involves the use of a special applicator with an abrasive surface that gently sands away the outer layer of the skin- resulting in a smoother, brighter, and more even-toned complexion.

What to Expect During a Microdermabrsion Treatment
What to Expect During Your Microdermabrasion Treatment
The actual microdermabrasion procedure takes just 15 to 20 minutes. One of our licensed estheticians will lead you to the treatment room where she will have you change into a gown and lie on the bed. Next the facialist will cleanse your skin in preparation of the treatment. To conclude the treatment, a moisturizer and SPF are applied to the skin.
You also have the option to add a facial to the microdermabrasion treatment. For an additional charge, a mask and facial massage will be incorporated into the treatment. This will extend the time of the treatment to about an hour.
Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion
There are several different types of microdermabrasion. At Newport Face N Body, our Irvine medspa, we use diamond-tip microdermabrasion. The diamond tip gently exfoliates the skin by loosening up the dead skin cells while simultaneously suctioning them off. During the treatment, you feel a slight sanding sensation. The entire process lasts about 40 minutes.
What Are the Side Effects of Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is safe for most skin types. Some common side-effects include mild tenderness, swelling, and redness. But they usually go away within a few hours. Rarely, minor bruising may occur from the suction during the treatment.
Microdermabrasion is minimally invasive, so there is typically no downtime. Some patients experience redness, and the skin can swell a bit. The effects are similar to having a windburn or a sunburn, and usually, resides within a day or two.
For best results, clients are advised to use gentle products after their treatment. This includes avoiding acne products for at least 24 hours. Clients should also avoid the sun for a few days; and, as always- remember to wear SPF!
How Many Treatments are Needed to See Results?
The number of treatments you need depends on your end goal. One treatment will leave your skin looking brighter and mroe radiant.
If you are looking to improve a specific skin problem, you will likely need a series of treatments to see the results you are looking for. The number and frequency of treatments will vary for each person. Typically, clients see the best results from microdermabrasion by getting the treatment every 10 days for a series of 6 to 10 treatments.
When Will Results Be Noticeable?
Most clients need a series of treatments to see results. After a series of treatments, clients usually report having smoother skin and a more radiant complexion. The number of sessions you need will depend on the current condition of your skin, and what you hope to achieve.
