What is Micro-needling?
Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skincare treatment used to rejuvenate the skin. A tiny pen-like device with fine needles is used to puncture the top layer of the skin. To respond, your body produces new collagen and elastin. The result is smoother, and more even-toned complexion.
What Conditions Can Be Treated with Micro-needling?
Microneedling can be used to treat a variety of skin imperfections, including:
- Acne scars
- Age spots/sun spots
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Texture and pore-size
- Reduced elasticity/lose, or sagging skin
- Uneven tone, including hyperpigmentation
- Stretch marks
- Surgical scars
What are the Benefits of Micro-needling
In addition to improving various imperfections, microneedling also has many other benefits, including:
- Improving product absorption, which increases product efficiency
- Improves circulation
- Prevents signs of aging
- Reduces the prevalence of acne and blackheads
How Does Micro-needling Work?
Microneedling works by stimulating your body to produce more collagen. The idea is that the micro-channels caused by the needs will cause a minor controlled injury. Your body’s natural response to the injury is to repair the area by producing new collagen-rich tissue. The new skin is more even toned, less textured, and firmer.
What to Expect After a Micro-needling Treatment
Here’s what you should expect after a session of microneedling at Newport Face N Body Med Spa.
1 Day After Your Treatment: The day after your treatment, do your best to avoid exfoliants, or glycolic acids that are present in many cleansers to avoid drying out your skin. Also, be sure to use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater.
2-7 Days After Your Treatment: Within 2 days after your treatment, many clients experience drying and flaking. This is because of the increase turnover of skin cells. During this period, you may apply your regular moisturizer. If the areas around the eyes were treated, a little micro-bruising may be present for 3 – 4 days. The bruising can usually be covered up easily with makeup.
A few days later, your skin will start to shed. These layers would normally shed a week later, but microneedling brings this skin to the surface sooner. While this is happening, your skin will be particularly dry. If the treated area isn’t irritated, you can use your regular skincare products.
7+ Days After Your Treatment: A week after the microneedling procedure, most clients notice a difference in their skin’s appearance and texture. Continue using sunscreen daily, and remember to apply it every 2 hours if you are outdoors.
How Many Micro-needling Treatments are Needed to See Results?
The number of microneedling treatments recommended will depend on the condition of the skin, and what the client is looking to accomplish. For best result, at least 3 treatments are recommended. Treatment sessions are typically spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Does Micro-needling Hurt?
Any pain or discomfort during the treatment itself is controlled with the topical numbing cream that is applied to the skin prior to the session as well as the cool mask that is applied at the end of the treatment. The treated area may be red and easily irritated for a short period of time following the treatment. Many people describe the sensation and look as comparable to a sunburn.
How Much Does Micro-needling Cost?
The cost of microneedling treatments vary from person-to-person, depending on the area treated, and the condition of the skin. At Newport Face N Body, the price of microneedling varies depending on the number of sessions needed, and the area being treated.
